The Crusade, as many know and hate today, was born when Gouge and his sidekick at the time, Cass, raided an Old Earth museum. They left with an ornate, horned set of knight armor and an idea. Immediately they got to work, heading to a Glitch planet to recruit for the crew they were putting together.

The newly crowned Pope Gouge, spiritual successor to the Roman Catholic Church, got to work immediately. It was on a hot Summer day that, standing on a table and yelling at bystanders, Doctor Felix was recruited. From that point on, Felix was in charge of finding new recruits. The most notable additions to the Crusade were found in the next few days. Felix found Ethane Gunn through a mutual friend. Sulphuric was recruited, and found Eve-465 on a tavern windowsill. Ethane Gunn recruited Jesse and Venena. Other recruits had joined, but none would last. == Betrayal == ---- Naturally, the Crusade made a number of enemies whenever they went. To some members, the gain from turning in the Crusade outgrew the benefit from staying with them. One night, a mob of angry civilians and local enforcers gathered around the group. They were overwhelmed. Practically chased out of their usual place of operations, the gang fled to the nearby Constellation system.
